2015 was a big year for Team Kamala. Here’s a look back at a few key moments.
Kamala announced she was running for Senate and immediately picked up endorsements from across California and the country. Early supporters included LA City Council President Herb Wesson; Art Torres; Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia; Assemblyman Jose Medina; and Sens. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Elizabeth Warren, who called Kamala “a smart, tough, and experienced prosecutor who has consistently stood up to Wall Street.”
Team Kamala started strong, right out of the gate! Supporters stepped up to donate, help out with events, and tell their friends and family why they were on #TeamKamala.
In March, Kamala spoke at the 30th anniversary celebration for EMILY’s List. Her campaign has been endorsed by EMILY’s List, which described her as “a fighter who defends the middle class.”
In May, supporters came out to hear Kamala speak at the California Democratic Party Convention. At the convention, she talked about how we’re going to work together to repair the ladder of opportunity for American families. If you’d like to see part of her speech, you can check it out here.
JUNE, JULY & AUGUST
Team Kamala didn’t slow down during the summer, and neither did Kamala! She joined in as the country celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality; worked on getting debt relief to students who were the victims of for-profit colleges that scammed them; launched a criminal justice open data initiative; and released a new report on truancy in California, and how it impacts education, the economy, and the criminal justice system.
By the fall, we hit a huge milestone: a donor to the campaign in all 58 California counties!
In October, we picked up our first editorial board endorsement from La Opinión, the largest Spanish-language paper in the country! They wrote: “[Kamala] has demonstrated her commitment to those who have less and her understanding of the need to protect minorities and for immigration reform.” Read the entire piece here.
In November, Kamala and other lawmakers called on legislators in Washington to follow California’s lead in strengthening laws to guarantee women equal pay for equal work. And hundreds of members of Team Kamala joined her in calling for Congress to protect the Clean Power Plan.
In December, we grew even more, adding volunteers at our new office in Sacramento. If you’re ready to join Team Kamala, sign up here. We hope to see you in 2016!
