Kamala Harris - For California Attorney General 2010

EMILY’s List endorses Kamala Harris for Attorney General

Kamala HarrisEMILY’s List, one of the nation’s largest political action committees with more than 100,000 members, today announced its endorsement of District Attorney Kamala Harris’ candidacy for California Attorney General.

“Over the last two and a half decades, EMILY’s List has helped elect dozens of highly qualified women candidates in California at all levels of public office,” said Harris. “I am honored to have EMILY’s List by my side in this campaign to bring a smart on crime approach to California’s justice system.”

Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List has played an active role in many California elections, helping to elect the state’s two U.S. Senators, 21 Congresswomen and 39 women to state and local office.

In December 2003, Kamala Harris was elected as the first woman District Attorney in San Francisco's history, and as the first African American woman and South Asian American woman in California to hold the office. If elected Attorney General, Kamala Harris would become only the sixth woman elected to statewide constitutional office in California history.

EMILY’s List joins other prominent local, statewide and national women’s organizations in supporting Harris’ candidacy, including Black Women Organized for Political Action, CALIFORNIA List, Los Angeles Women’s Political Committee, National Women’s Political Caucus, San Francisco Women’s Political Committee, and Women’s Campaign Forum.
