East Palo Alto Police Chief Ronald L. Davis Endorses Kamala Harris for Attorney General

Chief Praises Harris’ Experience as a Prosecutor, Innovative Approaches to Keeping our Streets Safe

SAN FRANCISCO – Ronald L. Davis, Chief of Police for the City of East Palo Alto, today announced his personal support for San Francisco District Attorney Kamala D. Harris’ candidacy for California Attorney General.

Chief Davis, who has worked closely with his community to reduce homicides by 38% and overall crime by 16% over the past three years, states: “California’s next Top Cop must be a progressive leader with the demonstrated ability to enforce the law and work closely with local communities and law enforcement.  Kamala Harris’ innovative approaches as District Attorney to combating recidivism and keeping kids in school have reduced crime in San Francisco and demonstrate that she is the right choice for Attorney General.”  Davis also praised Harris’ record as a career prosecutor and her commitment to protecting Californians.

“Chief Davis is an experienced and highly respected leader in Northern California’s law enforcement community, so I am very grateful to have earned his support,” said Harris. “As Attorney General, I will work with the law enforcement community throughout California to shut the revolving door which is just recycling criminals in and out of our neighborhoods.”

Ronald Davis has served as Chief of Police for the City of East Palo Alto since 2005. Prior to his appointment, Chief Davis spent 19 years with the Oakland Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Captain and served in assignments including Police Academy Director, Criminal Investigations Commander, Patrol Commander and Inspector General of the Police Department.

Chief Davis joins San Diego Chief of Police William Lansdowne in supporting Harris’ candidacy, which in recent weeks has also announced the backing of California Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, and Silicon Valley elected leaders including Senator Elaine Kontominas Alquist and former Assemblywoman Sally Lieber.
